Paws for Purple Hearts is a pioneering organization that introduced Canine Assisted Warrior Therapy®, previously known as Canine Assisted Therapeutic Intervention. Established in 2006 as a research initiative at the esteemed Bergin College of Canine Studies in collaboration with the Menlo Park Veterans Administration Medical Center, the organization has grown into an independent non-profit entity. It stands out as a service dog organization globally that caters to wounded Service Members and Veterans. This college, the world’s first and only institution dedicated to canine training and studies, was founded and is overseen by the renowned canine researcher and creator of the service dog concept, Dr. Bonnie Bergin.
